Parsec 2011 Finalist!

The Parsec Award finalists have been posted at http://www.parsecawards.com/2011-parsec-awards/finalists/

I am honored for the "Geek Out! with Mainframe" podcast to be a Parsec Award finalist in the category of Best Speculative Fiction Fan or News Podcast (General). Sincere congrats to the other finalists! You folks put out some truly excellent content.

Big thanks to the Parsec Committee for listening to a LOT of audio submissions. :)

To the honorable judges for the Parsecs this year, I apologize in advance ... (at least my guests are awesome) ;)

To the other podcast finalists in my category, don't worry about my little podcast ... it's the rest of the field you have to worry about.

To my guests, thanks ever so much for being on the show. :) ... I wish I could have included a clip from all of you in my submission.

Finally to my listeners, you are what the show is about, I hope you are enjoying the ride. :)

I'm looking forward to going to DragonCon and talking to some of the great podcasters there :)

You guys rock!

GOWM 27 - Interview with Odin1Eye - Part 2

Download: GOWM_027.mp3

Episode 27 is the second half of my interview with Odin1Eye. Odin is the blogger and podcaster of "View From Valhalla" - the place to go for the best reviews of podcast novels. If you want to know what Odin listens to besides the podiobooks he's already reviewed, you'll want to catch this episode.

And what does Podiobooks.com need more of? Listen to find out! (Even Evo Terra agrees in a recent interview on PodioRacket #50). So when you write one of those and put it up on Podiobooks, let Odin and I know ... We WILL listen.

GOWM 26 - Interview with Odin1Eye - Part 1

Download: GOWM_026.mp3

Episode 26 is the first part of my interview with Odin1Eye. Odin is the blogger and podcaster of "View From Valhalla" - the place to go for the best reviews of podcast novels. I enjoy FREE podcast audio novels, but if you are new to the podcast community there is no better place to start your search for ones you will enjoy. Odin's reviews are balanced and focused on letting you know why you would want to listen or pass on the podcast novels he reviews. Even for people like me who listened to the very first ones, visiting the site every Monday to find new podiobooks or being able to share your opinions about ones you've already listened to is a real service. He's even started podcasting his reviews, both recent and older ones, so please subscribe on his site.

On top of all that Odin is a REALLY nice person, great human being, and fellow "Watcher". I consider him one of my best Internet buddies. So what are you waiting for? Go listen already ... and check out his blog.

GOWM 25 - Talking Digital Comics with Ted

Download: GOWM_025.mp3

In episode 25; my brother, Ted, and I discuss digital comics. We are both long time comic book fans and we take a bit of time to talk about our thoughts on digital comics and how we think it may impact the comic book industry.

This isn't an interview, like most of my previous episodes. Also the audio quality isn't as good as I'd like. But I'm interested in finding out if you'd like more of these kinds of discussions on the show in general, and if you'd like Ted back in specific. So please comment on the episode and make your preferences known.

And if you comment on this or any other episode, please email me and enter yourself in the contest that is going on until May 18, 2011 - http://gowmainframe.blogspot.com/2011/04/geek-out-contest-1st-year-celebration.html

The Watchers - Episode 1, "Owner's Share"

Download: The Watchers- Episode 1

When the Internet powers of Jack Hosley (Wander Radio), Odin1Eye (View From Valhalla), and Richard Green (Geek Out!) unite .... well they just sit around on Skype and talk about stuff. But the stuff they talk about is AWESOME. And what could be more fitting for the first episode thana discussion of the awesome and controversial "Owner's Share" by Nathan Lowell? Oh and the discussion does contain spoilers!

Be prepared dear listeners .... where they are going, they don't need any roads. :)

Geek Out! Contest - 1st year celebration

On April 18, 2010 I posted my first real episode of "Geek Out! with Mainframe". So beginning, April 18, 2011 I am starting a month long contest, through May 18, 2011.

Actually they are two mini-contests.
1) Comment on the show - any feed back on the show a) on the blog b) via email and/or c) voice mail (emailed or on the voice mail line) (up to 5 entries). I hope to include these in a feedback show soon after the contest is over.

Just email me, gowmainframe at gmail dot com, subject line "Geek Out! Comment Contest", with evidence, link. etc of your comment. You must include an email address where I can contact you in case you win.

You may comment as much as you like, or course; but a person will only be entered up to 5 times in this contest.

2) Promote the show - Twitter, Facebook, other social media and/or iTunes review (up to 5 entries)

Just email me, gowmainframe at gmail dot com, subject line "Geek Out! Promo Contest", with evidence, link. etc of your comment. You must include an email address where I can contact you in case you win.

You may promote the show as much as you like, or course; but a person will only be entered up to 5 times in this contest.

Misc: You may enter both contests, and a person may be entered up to 5 times for each contest.

Privacy: The email addresses will not be used for any other purpose, you will NOT be put on any email list as a result of this contest, nor will any of these email adresses be sent to any other party.

Prizes-
Your choice of "Geek Out!" swag up to $25 (not including shipping)
or
Your choice of any of the books/ebooks by any of my guests in the 1st year up to $25 (not including shipping)

If anyone wants to add to the prize pool, with books or swag, etc; they can, but these prizes may have additional restrictions.

Prize winners will be chosen randomly from eligible entries. A person is eligible to only win one prize package from among these two contests.

Restrictions: I need to be able to send it as a gift order from Spreadshirt (for "Geek Out!" swag); or Amazon US, B&N US, book publishers, or other similar on-line shopping site (from a legitimate source) that I have access from the US. A winner should expect his or her prize to come from one source, to reduce potential shipping charges.

If that is a problem, I will attempt to have them delivered to me & then re-shipped to you, but that may take a very long time.

Other: I reserve the right to make minor changes to the terms of the contest as needed. If there are any question or concerns regarding this contest, please contact me at the before mentioned email address.

Comments do not have to be favorable to be considered for a prize entry. Promotional messages kind of wouldn't be promotional if they weren't at least partial favorable, but I intent to give a lot of latitude in this regard.

Additional donated prizes (in addition to the two prizes mentioned above):

(in progress, but I've had at least 3 prizes to be donated already)

GOWM 23 - Interview with Paulette Jaxton - Part 1

Download: GOWM_023.mp3

Episode 23 is the first half of my interview with Paulette Jaxton. This was one of my very favorite podcast novels of 2010 ... or any year. When I was surprised at the news that "The Empress Sword" was available, I immediately did 2 things. 1) Put my order in for my paperback & ebook versions & 2) Contacted Paulette about being on the show. Find out why the book and the author are so awesome in this interview. :)

(Yes, since the interview an epub version has been released and it is on my e-reader right now!)
